About us

We are Indonesian-Dutch couple, married in 2002, resident of Utrecht - The Netherlands, have one spoiled dog named Milo and one "gonna be spoiled" baby Isabelle. This webpage mainly is use to share our story and pictures to our family and friends. But of course we always welcome for new friends. The idea of this webpage is to share our story and pictures to our family and friends.

Since Ira's Dutch language is far from perfect and Dimitri's Indonesian language is even worse, we decided to use English as the main language in this blog, eventhough lately due to the laziness of Ira, Indonesian language seems to take over.

Please feel free to browse around and give us your comment.

Bowling day

I went bowling last friday with couple of my colleagues. It was fun.... I'm not good at all . I've only played bowling once in my life before but I quite enjoyed it. Well, actually only one of us that plays quite good.... got strike almost everytime.

Here are some pictures that I took. Too bad the result were not so clear. I only used my mobilephone camera and the lamp in the bowling area was dim.

Intermezzo

This conversation happened when Condoleeza Rice (Condi) still working by the Departement of Defence. Since then she became the Secretary of State. One of the White House staff, jim Sherman, wrote about this conversation right after Hu Jintao elected as the leader of the Communist Party in China.

After tight censors and heavy editing, this is some of the conversation that allowed to be known by public. Location: Oval Office.

George: Condi! Nice to see you. What's happening?

Condi: Sir, I have the report here about the new leader of China.

George: Great. Lay it on me.

Condi: Hu is the new leader of China.

George: That's what I want to know.

Condi: That's what I'm telling you.

George: That's what I'm asking you. Who is the new leader of China?

Condi: Yes.

George: I mean the fellow's name.

Condi: Hu.

George: The guy in China.

Condi: Hu.

George: The new leader of China.

Condi: Hu.

George: The Chinaman!

Condi: Hu is leading China.

George: Now whaddya' asking me for?

Condi: I'm telling you Hu is leading China.

George: Well, I'm asking you. Who is leading China?

Condi: That's the man's name.

George: That's who's name?

Condi: Yes.

George: Will you or will you not tell me the name of the new leader of China?

Condi: Yes, sir.

George: Yassir? Yassir Arafat is in China? I though the was in the Middle East.

Condi: That's correct.

George: Then who is in China?

Condi: Yes, sir.

George: Yassir is in China?

Condi: No, sir.

George: Then who is?

Condi: Yes, sir.

George: Yassir?

Condi: No, sir.

George: Look, Condi. I need to know the name of the new leader of China. Get me the Secretary General of the U.N. on the phone.

Condi: Kofi?

George: No, thanks.

Condi: You want Kofi?

George: No.

Condi: You don't want Kofi.

George: No. But now that you mention it, I could use a glass of milk. And then get me the U.N.

Condi: Yes, sir.

George: Not Yassir! The guy at the U.N.

Condi: Kofi?

George: Milk! Will you please make the call?

Condi: And call who?

George: Who is the guy at the U.N?

Condi: Hu is the guy in China.

George: Will you stay out of China?!

Condi: Yes, sir.

George: And stay out of the Middle East! Just get me the guy at the U.N.

Condi: Kofi

George: All right! With cream and two sugars. Now get on the phone.

(Condi picks up the phone.)

Condi: Rice, here.

George: Rice? Good idea. And a couple of egg rolls, too. Maybe we should send some to the guy in China. And the Middle East. Can you get Chinese food in the Middle East?

Again... and again.... :((

Why it always happen to Indonesia?

Quote from The Jakarta Post:

Tsunami sweeps Pangandaran after powerful earthquake
JAKARTA (Agencies): A tsunami swept through the popular Pangandaran beach resort in West Java after a powerful earthquake struck Monday at 3:24 p.m.

The head of the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency office in Bandung, Hendri Surbakti, told Antara news agency the 6.8 magnitude earthquake was centered some 33 kilometers below theIndian Ocean.

The U.S. Geology Survey, however, recorded the quake at 7.2 on the Richter scale, with the epicenter below the Indian Ocean, some 240 kilometers south of the beach, according to AP.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono told reporters at least five people were killed in the tsunami.

Pangandaran, in Ciamis regency, is situated along the southern coast of West Java.

Private TV station SCTV reported that the wave traveled some 500 meters inland from the beach at a height of the waistline of a normal adult.

People fled to a nearby hill to escape the wave.

Residents in the nearby town of Cilacap in Central Java fled inland upon hearing reports of a tsunami.

UU Kewarganegaraan

I read on the news site today, we're having a new citizenship law.... congratulation!

Quote:

Citizenship law hailed by legislators, leaves others wanting more
Hera Diani, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

Legislators pronounced the citizenship law passed here Tuesday as revolutionary in ending discrimination against Chinese-Indonesians and Indonesian women of foreign spouses, but activists said more needed to be done in the future.

Dewi Tjakrawinata, an executive of Aliansi Pelangi Antar Bangsa (APAB), a group for transnational unions, said traces of the previous 1958 Citizenship Law's nationalistic sentiments remained.

"But this is the best we can do so far, the maximum achievement at the moment. At least there is some progress in terms of the elimination of (the distinction between) 'indigenous' and 'nonindigenous', Indonesian women can pass on their citizenship to their children through dual citizenship for offspring, although it's limited, and there is the permanent residence status for foreign spouses."

She took issue with Article 23 of the law, which states that Indonesians living for five consecutive years in another country must declare their intention to remain Indonesian citizens or face losing their citizenship.

"Many migrant workers are oblivious to this regulation, and their passports are held by their employers, so they end up stateless," she said.

"It is not right that people can lose their citizenship because of an administrative issue."

Dewi also urged the removal of Article 26, stipulating that Indonesians who marry foreigners automatically lose their citizenship if the law in their spouses' country states they must assume their partners' nationality.

She said it was clearly discriminatory, because such patriarchal rules were only applied to women around the world.

"It (the law) states it is also for men as well, as though it is not gender biased, but it is. Secondly, why should we bow to another country's rule?"

Women's rights activist and legal expert Nursyahbani Katjasungkana told tempointeraktif news portal that Article 23 provided a loophole for fugitives to flee the country and live abroad with impunity.

"This article does not give protection to Indonesian citizens, but instead it gives protection to corrupt people," said the legislator of the National Awakening Party and member of the House of Representatives' formulating team.

Meanwhile, the Institute of Anti-Discrimination in Indonesia (LADI) objected to the law's exclusion of children born in Indonesia to parents whose citizenship was unclear.

"This law does not solve problems of stateless Chinese in Benteng area, Tangerang, in Banten province, and Tegal Alur, West Jakarta," it said in a release.

The organization referred to people of Chinese descent who remain stateless because of a wave of anti-Sino sentiment following an abortive communist coup in 1965 and the temporary severance of ties with Beijing.

I don't know why but I'm still a bit sceptical about it... it's a progress.. better than before.... but I'm not sure if I would extend my passport in Surabaya, the immigration office will make it easier than before.

I remember few years ago during Gus Dus precidency, GD stated it that no discrimination against chinese. That chinese descedant can apply passport the same way as everyone else, which is actually already stated in the old citizenship law. The law said, all child that born in Indonesia from a father that already has Indonesian citizenship by the time he/she born is automatically become Indonesian.

My father has his SBKRI (Surat Bukti Kewarganegaraan Republik Indonesia) somewhere in the 60's. I was born in 1972. You would think I will be automatically Indonesian, right? NOOOOOOOO...... when I went to Immigration office few years ago to extend my passport, the first thing they ask was my father SBKRI, without that I can't have passport. I tried to argue that Gus Dur said it doesn't needed anymore... do you know what that SOB said? He said, "Kalo gitu bikin aja passport ama Gus Dus, disini harus pake SBKRI" (in that case, make your passport by Gus Dus, in here you'll need SBKRI)... one or another way, you'll never win

Since my parents were divorce and my father lives in jakarta, it's so unpractical to have him send his SBKRI everytime I need it... I decided to make my own SBKRI... and I was right.... when I apply licence to get married with Dimitri by the city hall... guess what they asked after they saw my birth certificate... MY SBKRI!

I asked them, how did you know? I'm very confident that they would never know since I don't possessed white skin nor chinese eyes. The woman from the city hall said it so herself that she would never thought me as chinese if it would not be my birth certificate. She said there's a code between my birth certificate that shows I'm from chinese forefather. Speaking about discrimination!

Funny thing is, last night we were having dinner with my ex-boss. He is an englishman and was on business in Netherland. He called and asked if we want to have dinner together. During our conversation about World Cup, scene between Zidane and Matterazzi, about racism comment etc... he asked me if I ever felt discriminated in any way in Netherland. I said, "If I was being discriminated in here, I would not noticed the difference since I'm used to be discriminated in Indonesia"

But anyway, I tried not to be too sceptical. I'll see next time I need to extend my passport...

Weekend recap

Since friday last week I stayed away from my computer for total 3 days. Friday, I went to the city for window shopping with my friend that I knew from inburgering course.. and also met new friend that I knew from Indonesian mixed couple forum. Went home, made gado-gado and sate as Dimitri's parent came for dinner at our place.

Saturday, as always I was in Rode Kruis as volunteer, continued with weekly shopping in city. Having dinner at the neighbour.

Sunday, woke up late... too late to go to church... .. having late breakfast... prepared the bike... I asked Dimitri if he would come along to look for the safest route to go to Houten since I have a plan to go to work with the bike. It took us about 30 minutes to reach Houten. Around 8.6 km.

Dimitri doesn't really like the idea of me biking to work. To go from Utrecht to Houten with bike, we have to go through some quiet area long the farms and small forest. He doesn't like it that I have to bike alone during the day. I would prefer if also if the route along suburb but there's no other choice.

Utrecht - Houten is not that far. Took us about 15 minutes with car and 30 minutes wih bike. But it tooks me 1 hour 315 minutes with bus. The bus schedule is very unconvenient. My work begin at 12 o'clock, there is only one bus per hour to Houten leaving station at 11.15. Which is means I have to be in Centraal Station Utrecht before 11.15 which is means I have to leave home at 10.50. Bus leaving at 11.15 arrive in Houten at 11.45.... took me 5 minute to walk form bus halte to work...

Best thing to do is to go with car but I still haven't got my licence and its all my fault . I haven't continue with my driving lessons since February.

Curhat ... blogwalking

BB: ira, gimana kali memandang BL?
I: maksudmu? (aku tau maksudnya sih hehehe, cuman mengulur waktu
BB: apa kamu masih melihat BL sbg atasanmu?
I; Ja, natuurlijk
BB: (rada emosi) kenapa? Aku ini bosmu, BL itu rekan kerja
I: (masih ngeles) tergantung dong
BB: tergantung gimana?
I: kalo masalah keuangan, kamu bosku... kalo masalah perencanaan, BL itu bosku

Huehehehe, kebetulan kerjaanku bikin faktur ama sebagai asisten perencana... jadi untuk urusan faktur aku emang di bawah dia, tapi urusan planning sopir-sopir, urusan rute dsbnya aku dibawah BL. Dimitri bilang ngalah aja napa, bilang aja emang dia bos.. benernya bisa sih...cuman aku seneng aja bikin dia jengkel kekekeke dan bukan cuman aku lho yang gitu... sopir-sopir juga sama aja...

Tapi aku pernah menang ama dia sekali... kemenangan kecil sih tapi aku puas.

Senang khan?
I: Terima kasih
BB: aku udah check kontrakmu dengan perusahaan lama. Sekarang aku menawarkan kontrak yang sama.
I: Nggak mau
BB: (Kaget) kok nggak mau? kamu khan beruntung nggak kehilangan kerjaan seperti beberapa rekanmu
BB: So?
BB: ok... good argument... ya sudah gajimu aku usulkan segini....

Oya, aku kerja selama 24 jam seminggu, dibagi selama 4 hari, jadi sehari 6 jam, hari jumat aku libur.

BB: Ira, kamu masih mau kerja 3 hari
I: Mau banget
BB: Bisa sih, tapi jam kerjamu dikurangi, jadi 18 jam soalnya toch beban kerjamu juga rada berkurang akhir-akhir ini
I; Aku pikir-pikir dulu ya

(taruh nama disini... ) ayo pada rajin nulis deh.. ira siap memberi komentar...
