About us
We are Indonesian-Dutch couple, married in 2002, resident of Utrecht - The Netherlands, have one spoiled dog named Milo and one "gonna be spoiled" baby Isabelle.
This webpage mainly is use to share our story and pictures to our family and friends. But of course we always welcome for new friends.
The idea of this webpage is to share our story and pictures to our family and friends.
Since Ira's Dutch language is far from perfect and Dimitri's Indonesian language is even worse, we decided to use English as the main language in this blog,
eventhough lately due to the laziness of Ira, Indonesian language seems to take over.
Please feel free to browse around and give us your comment.

Bad habits
I got the bad habit baton from Ria... since last week I try to think what my bad habits are... don't think I have one.... all my habits are good... hehehehe j/k
Hmmmm, let me see... after asking Dimitri about all my bad habits, I managed to squeezed it down to 5 as follow:
1. I have to sit on the right side otherwise I would get headache. Doesn't matter where it is, in the car, in the couch, in the bus even on bed I also have to be on the right side. Luckily dimitri doesn't mind it... he just thinks that I'm strange hehehe
2. Like to argue about anything/anytime/anywhere with Dimitri, even where there is nothing to argue about..... sometimes Dimitri fed up with it.. sorry honey.. hehehe I argue about everything, from politics to movies.... from what's on tv to daily life... all the unimportant things like who's going to win; jet lie vs jackie chan or donald duck vs daffy duck or arnold vs dolph lundren...
3. I wouldn't call this bad habit... it's more strange habit hehehe... I always to have balance between right and left and have everything on symmetry. I can't stand something that un-symmetris... example when my right hand wet from something, I have to make my left hand wet too... foots of the table has to be on the same line with the tiles.. if my right foot feels itchy and I scratch it, automatically I will scratch my felt foot too even it doesn't feel itchy
4. My other habit is that I always neurotic when I left the house. Keep thinking "did I close and lock the door" "did I turn off the water tap" "did I turn off the fire"... many time I missed bus to work just because I keep running back home to check again... and again.....
5. I don't have any discipline at all.....
hmmmm.... I don't know to whom I can throw this baton.... seems like everyone already got it.... hmmm... Lillian???

Friends
Until recently I never thought how blessed I am with friendship in many way. Especially since I discovered the magic thing called "internet"... all sudden the distance, the language difference become no problem anymore... world seems to shrinking to one pc.
I found lots of new friends via internet, some stays some doesn't. I'm lucky that I had a chance to meet some of my internet friends in real. My relationship with Dimitri also begun as a pure friendship until we met in real and decided to move further. My friendship with Amelia begun way back when we both still a teenager... then Hanna came along.
In real life, I met quite alot of my chatting friends... some of them even came to my wedding... femalle from Jkt/Aus, Cosmo from San Fransisco, Aquatic from Swedia, Jamrut from Sby, Rerova from Jkt.. thanks guys... it means alot... When I moved to Holland, I have totally no friends but internet friends... and I also met some of them; Reggaeman, Menteng, Alfa, Jhef, Xsara, Jazz and many more... Recently I also met my chatting friend from HK, which is extra nice because not only we are finally met each other in real but also we live closer... she moved to Holland too... and in Utrecht!!!
And aside from chatting.. lately, I got new friends from blogwalking.... hehehe sky is the limit, my friend... begin with Rachel that introduced me to Ria, from Ria I got to know Ina/Vivie/Since/Yulia/Retno/Marlina... I never met them in real yet, only Ina. There are also friends that I met from forum kaskus... Dina/Sandra/Teddy are some of them that I have met in real too. And then of course, friends that I met during my inburgering cursus... Soes, Hesti, Krisztina, Madina, Jori and more.... some stays in contact... lots doesn't
Beside that, I've met also lots of new "friends" around me. Why I said "friends" and not just friend? Because I don't know their name.... they are people that I meet almost everyday... the woman behind the bakery counter that knows what I want to buy before I say it, people that walking their dog same time as I do, the postman, the bus driver.
There is one bus driver that seems having the same schedule as I do. He is about 55 years old. Everyday when I left home to work, I always on his bus... he knows without me saying it, that I need 4 strips on my buscard.. always smiling and greet me, goedemorgen/goedemiddag.... when he sees me running toward the bus halte, he is willing to wait (some bus driver doesn't care ).. no... he's not flirting with me... because I noticed that he also give the same treatment to other passanger....
Today, we talked more that just greeting.... when I gave him my buscard, he asked, "waar was je gisteren?" (where are you yesterday?) I said, "hehehe, ik was een beetje laat" (I was late)... actually this little conversation inspired me to write this posting... I was abit surprised that he noticed that I wasn't on his bus yesterday... I don't know his name or anything but I feel he is my friend in some way... anyhow, it always nice to be noticed
So, my friends wherever you are, my old friends, my new friends, friends from chatting, friends from blogwalking, friends from forum, friends from inburgering cursus, also my other "friends"..... thank you from being a friend... you all on one way or another are giving colours in my life
And for Dimitri, my best friend, my love .... I love you the most

Polisi EYD
Browsing around and found this interesting website, Polisi EYD. It makes me realize, for years I never speak Indonesian properly... but then again, who does? Growing up in Surabaya, we speak to each other mostly in mixed javaans, half Indonesian half javaans. Learning English and then Dutch made it even worse.
They explain the history of bahasa Indonesia , the first known spelling is Ejaan van Ophuijsen (ejaan = spelling) on year 1901. I'm not sure if this Mr. van Ophuijsen, a Dutchman of not. I suspect he is. The spelling way is almost the same like Dutch spelling, using j to write jang, pajah, sajang, oe for goeroe, itoe, oemoer.
Then on 19 Maret 1947 new spelling way being introduced, Ejaan Soewandi to replace van Ophuijsen. It also called ejaan Republik. Mind you, at that time, we were two years independent form the Dutch, thus they just try to took away all the things that smells or remind the people of Dutch colonialism. So, oe is replaced by u, becomes guru, itu, umur. Plural being wrote as anak2 (children), ber-jalan2 (walk around), meja2 (tables).
Third spelling known as Ejaan Melindo, year 1959, as a result from meeting between Indonesia and Melayu (Malaysia). Because of the bad politics between Indonesia and Malaysia in the coming year, this spelling never really being used.
16 Agustus 1972, the Presiden of Indonesia Republic officially announced Ejaan Bahasa Indonesia yang Disempurnakan (EYD) as the new spelling methode. The changes are: dj replaced by j as in djalan --> jalan, djauh --> jauh j replaced by y pajung --> payung, laju --> layu nj replaced by ny njonja -->nyonya, bunji --> bunyi tj replaced by c tjukup -->cukup, tjutji --> cuci
Plural is wrote fully, not using "2", thus anak-anak, berjalan-jalan, meloncat-loncat
More info at Polisi EYD.
Not too bad, heh! Four times changing the spelling in 100 years, unlike some country (read: The Netherlands) that changing their spelling almost every year .. like there's no better thing to do
