About us

We are Indonesian-Dutch couple, married in 2002, resident of Utrecht - The Netherlands, have one spoiled dog named Milo and one "gonna be spoiled" baby Isabelle. This webpage mainly is use to share our story and pictures to our family and friends. But of course we always welcome for new friends. The idea of this webpage is to share our story and pictures to our family and friends.

Since Ira's Dutch language is far from perfect and Dimitri's Indonesian language is even worse, we decided to use English as the main language in this blog, eventhough lately due to the laziness of Ira, Indonesian language seems to take over.

Please feel free to browse around and give us your comment.

Do you guys believe in spirits? Or ghost? Or other subtances on earth other than just human, animal and plants?

I do believe it. Most Indonesian believe it.... I have to admit that I never meet ghost or spirits... and I don't want to either... I'm too chicken for that... Dimitri knows how scared I am after saw horror movies.... I don't even going to my own bedroom after if the curtain not closed... that's how chicken I am. But that doesn't stop me watching horror movies.... Dimitri often says that I'm a bit sadistic to my self... afraid of ghost but love to watch horror movies.

Anyway, I wasn't about to talk about me being scared. The other day I was reading online newsletter owned by Dutchman that lives in Indonesia. He owned bar in Jakarta. Like other Dutch/Western, he doesn't believe in ghost. But he got some experienced watching staff got possessed, screaming lodly and went into wild aggressive trance. Then one of his kitchen staff that knew some supranatural thing tried to heal the girls. He wrote it that his kitchen staff took his little keris in both hands and went into trance too. He held his keris fiercely in front of the girls while he was swearing heavily in the old Javanese language. He then managed to calm down the waitress. The Dutchman still skeptical about it until now.... but it happened

As the reaction from the story he told on the newsletter, he received email from one of his reader. I'll quote it here... and for reference, here's some translation of the indonesian words

Orang pinter/dukun: syaman or psychic, someone that have supranatural power, can see and talk to the spirits, can heal, can find missing object.
Guna-guna: bad spell, sick spell, love spell
Mandi bunga: being in the bathtub with 7 kind of flowers, believes to clean your bad aura
Keris: Javanese weapon, believes to have supranatural power and give strength to who owns it
Bule: indonesian terms for western people

Hi Bart,
Before coming to Jawa I was a skeptical as the next guy about the "spirit world": These days I am still skeptical but have moved the "scepto-meter" several degrees towards the existence of the "spirit world":

Remember my story about my fiance and the faith healer - well the faith healer did not clear up the acne but she went to see another "orang pintar" who suggested that there were some "remaining bad feelings" from another woman that were causing here to be very spotty. This "orang pintar" suggested she use honey (real honey not purified) to treat her face. No kidding after one week her skin is totally amazing - better than ever.

Two years ago I witnessed a "possession" of a girl by "a spirit": Complete BS? Well the girl developed the voice of an old man and the strength of an Olympic wrestler while under this "spirit's" influence. In fact her brother and I could not hold her down, such was her strength.

On the subject of girls using "guna guna" to captivate a bule (for purposes of commerce and not true love) I have personally experienced this two years ago (yep same gal that had the possession) - you know in the horror films the feeling you have when the teenagers decide to stay in the spooky old house even though for sure they are all going to die in there? You know the feeling: You want to scream "get the hell out of there". Well two years ago I could see myself in this terrible relationship so I tried to end it. Ha, easy you say - well for one thing after I had gotten the girl out of my rental house I had hot dizzy spells for nearly a month - I tried my own "dukun" a father of a friends wife, I tried the "mandi bunga" nothing worked: Finally I moved house. Moving house was very effective.

One of my good friends, an American guy has been trying to ditch a girl for 3 years, according to the girls friends (bar girls so the reference is tarnished) she spends a few juta each month on a dukun that keeps my friend captivated by her. It is pathetic to see but he is totally non functional when she leaves and within a week he always begs her to come back (with an offering of gold):

Believe it or not...... they are there... The good thing is that I less scared in The Netherlands than in Indonesia. Do you know tha we even have our own ghost in my mother's house in Surabaya but that's another story to tell

and here's keris
